Inspector John Onwe, a Lagos policeman, was sentenced to hang for the killing of Ndudiri Onyekwere. Ndudiri owed Chief Gabriel Ezeze money and Ezeze promised policemen in the Lagos State Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) a percentage if they recovered the debt. Onwe apprehended Ndudiri, tied him up with rope and with accomplices beat him death with gun butts over a 24 hour period. The autopsy showed Ndudiri's face was battered with cuts and bruises, there was blood in both nostrils, upper and lower lips, lower part of the jaw, he also had a number of cuts on the neck, four deep cuts at the right side of the neck measuring 0.5 to 3 cm. There was fracture dislocation on the head of the humerous. The bone arm, collar bone which is the classical fracture trauma to the brain, strain, swollen evidence of hernias.
