NIGERIA: DELTA HIGH COURT SENTENCES 3 ARMED ROBBERS TO DEATH

In Nigeria, the High Court of Justice sitting in Otu-Jeremi judicial division, Delta State, has sentenced three young men, Moses Etisi, Sunday Shebobo and Moses Pender Otobrise to death after they were found guilty of the charge of armed robbery and murder brought against them.
The fourth accused person, one Daniel Ejesemehpia was however lucky to escape the death verdict as he was discharged and acquitted for want of sufficient evidence linking him to the heinous crime.
A prosecutor from the state Ministry of Justice had told the court that Moses Etisi, Sunday Shebobo, Moses Otobrise and the discharged accused person, Daniel Ejesemephia, had robbed one Sunday Ibru Oduaran of his brand new unregistered Simba motorcycle and also killed him when he resisted the attack.
Prosecution said the crime took place around July 2008 at Owodokpokpo Olomo within the Otu-Jeremi Judicial Division, an offence punishable under Sections 319 and 1(2) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act Cap R11, Volume 14, Laws of the Federation, 2004.
The court found the three robbers guilty of murder and armed robbery, which they admitted to have committed in their confessional statements to the police and they were slammed with the death verdict, the mandatory punishment for the offences committed.
