Bayelsa State High Court has sentenced one of the killers of the eleven policemen at Lobia two community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, Jackson Feutubobai, to death by hanging.
The incident took place on the fifth of April, 2013.
The Judge, Justice M.A Ayemieye who listened to the passionate plea for mercy made by the Counsel to the convict, Efieseimokumo Bipeledei, also known as General Jasper, says the punishment for murder is death and it is mandatory.
The counsel had pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy saying the accused person is a family man who has five children that are all depending on him.
He said imposing the maximum penalty will truncate the destiny of all the children who are all minors, the counsel urged the court to convert the punishment to terms of imprisonment.
Prosecuting Counsel, Arthur Andrew Seweniowor says if the accused fails to appeal in three months, the governor would sign his death warrant and he will be hung to death.
The court however discharged and acquitted the second accused person identified as ThankGod Clinton Ezetu, no evidence was linked to him on the murder of the eleven policemen.
