A Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja, sentenced one Mutiu Oyedeji to death by hanging after he was found guilty of armed robbery.
The convict was said to have robbed one Ikenna Egocima at gunpoint in the Ejigbo area of Lagos state.
Police prosecutor, Shitta Bey, told the court that Oyedeji and two others at large committed the offence in September, 2015.
Nkenna Okolie, the defendant’s counsel, in his plea, prayed the court be lenient and tamper justice with mercy.
However, Justice Oyefeso, while delivering judgment said the mercy decision is beyond the court as the Administration of Criminal Justice Act has provided measures of punishment for such to serve as a deterrent to others.
She, therefore, sentenced him to death by hanging.
