NIGERIA: RISK OF DEATH SENTENCE AFTER REPATRIATION FROM ITALY

a Nigerian girl risks being sentenced to death in her country after being repatriated from Italy.
Faith Aymoro, 23, was expelled yesterday afternoon by the Bologna Cie, not withstanding the request for political asylum presented yesterday by her lawyer Alessandro Vitale.
In Nigeria she was arrested for the murder of a man that attempted to rape her, and now she is at risk of being sentenced to death by hanging. It will be reported to her defence lawyer.
Vitale explained 'Today I received official confirmation of her repatration by the Bologna Immigration Police. Moreover, Faith's son, who is also Nigerian and who lives and works in Bologna, knew that she has already been arrested.'
Two weeks ago, the woman (who has lived in Bologna since 2007 after escaping from Nigeria), was subjected to another attempted rape by a compatriot, in her apartment. But when the police arrived, they discovered that she had two outstanding expulsion decrees, and so they took her to the Cie. Then her lawyer requested a permit to stay for justice reasons (to allow her to testify against the presumed aggressor) and persented a request for a suspension to the justice of the peace, as well as a request for political asylum. But every effort was in vain and the repatration was carried out.
At this point, according to her lawyer, there isn't much hope. 'The only thing that we can do, as soon as the woman's arrest becomes official, is to appeal to the Italian Government, or an international association such as Amnesty International, to intervene.'
