OHIO (USA): STEVE SMITH EXECUTED

Steve Smith, 46, White, was executed in Ohio.
He was convicted of killing a 6-month-old as he raped her on September 29, 1998.
Smith had recently tried to get his sentence reduced to life in prison, arguing that he was too drunk to realize that his assault was killing his live-in girlfriend's daughter, Autumn Carter, and didn't mean to hurt the baby.
The state has enough of its lethal injection drug, the powerful sedative pentobarbital, to execute 2 other inmates before the supply expires. 8 more inmates are scheduled to die from November through mid-2015. Smith becomes the 2nd inmate to be put to death this year in Ohio, the 51st since the resumed capital punishment in 1999, the 10th to be put to death this year in the USA and the 1330th overall since the nation resumed executions on January 17, 1977.
