On 27 February, Sen. Loren Legarda, an anti-crime advocate, said that courts sentenced 33 men to death in February, mostly for murder and rape, bringing to 947 the number of death sentences issued since capital punishment was restored in 1994. About 20 have been passed on women: 8 face death by lethal injection for kidnapping; 4 for large-scale drug trafficking; 3 for murder; 2 for kidnapping and murder; another 2 for parricide; and 1 for robbery with homicide.
