On April 30, the Cassation Court upheld the death sentence against Iranian Mahdi Attallah Tchawerzi for peddling 800g of heroin and opium. Upon being sentenced to death by the Dubai Court of First Instance, he appealed to the Appeals Court which upheld the sentence. Tchawerzi then appealed to the Cassation Court which confirmed the death penalty. The Cassation Court also confirmed the death penalty imposed on a UAE national for drug dealing. Rashid Mohammed Saleh Bel Jafila was arrested when police caught him with 879g of hashish. The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced him to death, and the sentence was upheld by the Dubai Court of Appeals.
