On august 10, 2001, Cambodia's King Norodom Sihanouk signed into law a bill passed by the country's legislature to establish a U.N.-assisted tribunal to bring former Khmer Rouge leaders to justice. A government official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Kyodo News that King Sihanouk signed the bill after Prime Minister Hun Sen forwarded it to him earlier in the day for approval.
