On August 4, after a trial lasting almost 3 months, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court handed down 6 death sentences and 6 of life imprisonment in the final hearing of the Minh Phung/Epco case in which 77 officials were charged with corruption. The Court sentenced to death Tang Minh Phung, Lien Khiu Thien, Pham Nhat Hong, Nguyen Ngoc Bich, Nguyen Tan Puch and Nguyen Xuan Phong for defrauding and misappropriating socialist properties.
