On december 20, 2001, according to a Voice and Vision [of Iran] correspondent from Dushanbe, participants of the two-day conference entitled "The death penalty: pros and cons", opened in Dushanbe on December 20, said the number of those executed in Tajikistan in 2000 was 65, and a total of 100 people were executed in 2001. This was announced at an international conference on the abolition of the death penalty held in the capital Dushanbe. Zieev Mirzomutdin, Head of the Department of Penitentiary Institution under the Ministry of Interior of Republic of Tajikistan, said the number of executed people in 2001 was 74. Abdurakhmonov Vatan, judge of Dushanbe city court, said more than 100 people were executed in 2001. Independent experts indicate also more than 100 executed people in 2001. According to the opinion of independent experts in 2000 this figure was 65.There is no any official data. No any published official info.
