On December 24, Haikou City Intermediate People's Court sentenced Chen Zewu, Ke Xingzhi, Lin Zai to death; Lin Ning, Feng Yaji to death with two years reprieve; Lin Jianlong and another 10 criminals were sentenced to terms of imprisonment. They were charged with intentional homicide, robbery, illegally possession and trafficking in guns and explosives. From 1994 to 1998, Chen and the other accomplices robbed and killed people on 18 occasions in Haikou and Shenyang and stole 366,590 yuan, 38,000 HK dollars, and other valuables. They killed and wounded eight persons including a Japanese businessman. Defendants Lin Ning and Lin Zai were also involved in illegally possessing and trafficking in guns and explosives.
