On January 20, the Shantou Intermediate People's Court handed down the death sentence to Lin Jingchuan, skipper of the Yongzaihong No.7 based in Taiwan's Penghu Islands. Lin was accused of transporting 73 million yuan ($8.8 million) in forged banknotes for Taiwanese smugglers in July 1997.
