On July 22, a division Bench of the High Court, ordered that Narayanram Chaudhary (21) and Jeetu Gehlot (24) be hanged until dead for murdering 7 members of the Rathi family, in Pune 5 years ago. The victims were Mirabai Rathi (46), her daughter Preeti (21), a married daughter, Hemlata Narvandar (24), daughter-in-law Babita alias Neeta (25), grandsons, Prateek (18 months) and Chirag (4), and maid-servant Satyabhama Sutar (45). Babita was 9 months pregnant when she was stabbed repeatedly in the stomach. The judges, observed that "the manner of conceiving the plot, the preparation of same and its cold-blooded execution more than upsets us." Hence, this murder comes under the category of the rarest murder cases and the death sentence is justified, the Bench ruled.
