On June 12, Federal narcotics department director Salleh Mat Som said police arrested 1,226 suspected traffickers during various operations nationwide between January and the first week of June, this year. Of the number, Salleh said 661 were investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act which carries the mandatory death sentence on conviction, while the rest were held under the Dangerous Drugs Act (Special Preventive Measures) 1985.
