On June 28, the Republic's Supreme Court completed proceedings, which started on June 2, on the criminal cases of 22 citizens involved in the act of terrorism carried out in Tashkent in 1999. They were suspected of involvement in the February 16 explosions in the Uzbek capital. The Court, after a thorough examination of requests and protests of all the sides, issued the verdict. Six of the 22 accused were sentenced to death and the remaining 16 were given prison terms ranging from 10 to 20 years.
