On March 13, Ahmed Hussein and 8 others were condemned to death by hanging for looting, by a special tribunal in Niyala. The convicts had stormed a Bank of Sudan branch in daylight, ordered those inside to keep calm, and driven away with the equivalent of $1.5 million in Sudanese banknotes. The sentences must be approved by President Omar el Bashir before the men are hanged.
