On March 5, two Cuban citizens were executed, an official organ of the Communist Party in Las Tuna reported on March 12. The first, Luis Carlos Velazquez Cabrera, was put to death for having raped and killed a boy aged 2 years and 10 months on May 17, 1997 in Majibacoa; the second, Felix Joaquin Sanchez Ramos, for having raped and stabbed his step daughter, who survived the knifing, in La Guanabana, also on May 17 1997.
