On May 1, Nepal completely abolished the death penalty, after being abolitionist for ordinary crimes since 1990. Now the maximum penalty is 25 year of imprisonment. On this occasion, Justice Minister Tirtha Man Shakya declared: "Nepal has been more courageous than the U.S. and other developed countries in abolishing the death penalty. Nepal has set an example on human rights."
