On november 21, 2001, the police warned the public that anyone caught lighting up fireworks during Hari Raya would face legal action."Due to the banning of these materials, individuals have started using home-made fireworks made out of pipes and bamboo with severe consequences," said the Head of the Police Public Relations Unit, Supt. Hj Abd Murad Hj Abd Hadi, in a press conference.According to Section 28 (1)(b), those found to be storing or making explosives without proper consent may face the death sentence whereas, according to Chapter 30 Section 5(4)of the Misdemeanors Act, if someone were to set off fireworks in a public place, he/she may be fined up to $250.
