On November 3, at the Third Committee of the General Assembly (human rights) under item 116a (death penalty), First Secretary Aqeel Akbar said any State has the right to determine the punishment, or lack of it, for the commission of a crime violating its judicial codes. "There is no consensus on abolishing capital punishment. The European Union's initiative is at the very least ill-advised," Akbar said.
