On November 3, Tashkent City Court sentenced Arsen Arutyunyan and Danis Sirazhev to death for murdering Laylo Aliyeva, a singer, and her 3-year-old son on May 1, 1998. Arutyunyan, born in 1979 and Sirazhev, born in 1975, two singers of "Al-Vakil," a famous Uzbek pop-group, were arrested on June 3 in Tashkent. Appeals against their sentences were turned down by the Supreme Court of Uzbekistan on December 20. Appeals are now lodged with the Presidium of the Supreme Court.
