On November 4, Assem Safieddine, the Southern Lebanon and Nabatieh chief investigating magistrate, asked that Jamal Deeb Amin, 39, be given the death penalty for brutally murdering his 17-year-old daughter, Wafa Amin, on October 13 with a butcher's knife. According to officials, Amin confessed to committing the crime. They said Amin told them he had killed his daughter to avenge the honor of his family after she told him she wanted to divorce Ali Sayyed, her husband of eight months. Amin's wife, Afifeh Khalil, told police that her husband had sexually abused his daughter, which is why he rushed her into a marriage she did not want. Wafa reportedly wanted the divorce because she did not want her husband to find out that she was not a virgin.
