On occasion of the "World Day Against the Death Penalty", the European Parliament declared that: "The EU reaffirms its commitments in promoting the abolishment of the death penalty, both in times of war and in times of peace. The EU," the declaration added, "invites the states which still provide the death penalty in their laws to take the first step towards abolition by introducing a moratorium on executions. The EU also strongly appeals to those states which apply the death penalty to not execute those who were minors at the time of the crime."
