On September 10, 3 death row inmates: Masashi Sato, 62; Katsutoshi Takada, 61; and Tetsuyuki Morikawa, 69, were hanged. Takada was sentenced to death in 1992 for murdering a woman 2 years earlier. Sato reportedly murdered and sexual assaulted a 5-year-old girl in 1979. Morikawa was sentenced to death for stabbing a mother and child to death and robbing them of cash and jewelry in 1985.
