On September 16, the referendum on the "civil conciliation" law passed with 84.96 % of the people voting, 98.63 % of whom were in favor. Almost all political parties (National Group for Democracy, Group for Culture and Democracy, Movement for a Pacific Society and a minor fundamentalist group) supported this referendum, except for the Front of Socialist Forces (FFS) and Workers' Party (PT). FIS also supported Bouteflika's policy. As a result, hundred of GIA fundamentalists "turned state's evidence," while other groups continued with their attacks.
