PAKISTAN. COURT UPHOLDS DEATH SENTENCES IN MUSHARRAF'S ATTACK CASE

a court in Pakistan rejected appeals of four air force employees against their death sentences, awarded to them for planning assassination attempts on Pakistani President General Pervez Musharraf in December 2003. Musharraf survived two attacks in 2003 when his motorcade was attacked in the city of Rawalpindi near the capital Islamabad. The accused had challenged the death sentences awarded by a military court. The Lahore High Court judge Syed Akhtar Shabir, while rejecting the appeals after a preliminary hearing, said that the court could not hear appeals against verdicts issued by military tribunals.
