the Peshawar High Court, Pakistan, commuted Said Mehmood’s sentence from death to life and acquitted his son Bakhtiar, co-accused in the murder case. The two had been sentenced to death by a lower court in Buner in January 2005 after being convicted of stabbing two brothers to death with a dagger and injuring a third man in May 2003. During the appeal hearing, advocate Khwaja Muhammad Khan contended that the statements of prosecution witnesses in the original trial were contradictory to each other.
