the Sindh High Court in Karachi, Pakistan, commuted the sentence of two men facing death for triple murder but maintained the death sentence for a third accomplice. Mir Mohammad alias Miro, Khair Mohammad alias Khairo, Lal Mohammad alias Laloo and Mohammad Yousuf had been sentenced to death by the additional district and sessions court in west Karachi on December 29, 2001. Yousuf’s conviction was nullified due to his demise whilst in custody on December 12, 2005.
The convicts had been found guilty of murdering three people over a land dispute on November 14, 1995. After hearing the appellants’ arguments, the court observed that the prosecution had proved its case against Mir Mohammad but that the charges could not be proved against Khair Mohammad and Lal Mohammad who were entitled to the benefit of the doubt and consequently acquitted.
