PAKISTAN: MAN HANDED SENTENCED TO DEATH IN MURDER CASE

in Pakistan, Additional District and Sessions Judge South Abdul Razzak sentenced Mohammed Bux Umrani to death for the October 2004 murder of TV star Afreen Beg. Umrani was Beg’s driver. Umrani’s wife Zahida, also accused in the murder, is still at large. The court also fined Umrani Rs10,000 and ordered him to pay Rs0.1 million compensation to the deceased’s heirs. Farooq Mengal, Beg’s widower, was acquitted for lack of evidence.
