Sargodha Additional Sessions Judge Muhammad Aslam sentenced a man to death for killing his daughter-in-law over serving cold curry and acquitted the deceased’s mother-in-law and two brothers-in-law by giving them the benefit of the doubt, Dawn reported on May 3, 2025.
Mukhtar Ahmed, a 50-year-old resident of Superior Town in Satellite Town area, killed his daughter-in-law, Sajida, on June 11, 2022, during a routine domestic dispute allegedly triggered by the late delivery of a cold meal.
His wife Ghulam Fatima and two sons, Saif and Shahzad Hassan, were also nominated in the case registered by the Satellite Town police under sections 302, 109, and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code, on the complaint of Sajida’s father, Sher Muhammad.
The police arrested all suspects and sent them to jail.
The judge sentenced Mukhtar to death after finding him guilty, while acquitting Ghulam Fatima, Saif, and Shahzad due to lack of concrete evidence. The court also ordered Mukhtar to pay Rs700,000 as compensation to the heirs of the deceased.
After the verdict, Mukhtar broke down in tears. Speaking to reporters at the court premises, he said he killed Sajida in a fit of rage, allegedly incited by his wife and children. Hundreds of people, including relatives of the victim, were present in the courtroom during the hearing.
