the Russian embassy in Islamabad requested that the Pakistani Foreign Ministry provide an official explanation and organize a meeting between Russian representatives and Akhlak Akhlas, official Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mikhail Kamynin announced.
Russian national Akhlak Akhlas had been accused by the Pakistani authorities of taking part in the attempt on the life of President Pervez Musharraf in December 2003. "We have yet to receive an answer from Pakistan about this request," the Russian diplomat noted. Mikhail Kamynin noted that the Pakistani authorities had not informed Russia that there was a Russian citizen among those accused of taking part in the attempt to assassinate Musharraf. "The Russian embassy in Pakistan only very recently found out that there may be a Russian citizen among the men condemned to death for this crime," the diplomat stressed.
