PAKISTAN: SARABJIT’S EXECUTION PROCEDURALLY DELAYED BY 14-21 DAYS

the execution of Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh in Pakistan was procedurally delayed by 14 to 21 days, Dawn News reported. The channel said the extension was given by the Punjab Home Department after the expiry of a one-month delay given by President Pervez Musharraf on April 30. The channel quoted officials as saying that according to law the case had to be put before a local court for the fixation of a new date after the expiry of the delay. But the court cannot fix a fresh date before 14 days and beyond 21 days, said the officials. Presidential spokesman Rashid Qureshi said no mercy petition was pending with President Musharraf. “For the time being, the president is considering no mercy petition of Sarabjit,” Qureshi said.
