Peru was a cosponsor and voted in favor of the resolution on the death penalty approved by the UN Commission on Human Rights on April 28 (1999/61).The Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial, Summary or Arbitrary Executions remains concerned about reports of the widespread use of torture in prisons which often leads to the aforesaid executions (E/CN.4/1999/39/Add.1).Peru was also a cosponsor of the resolution for a moratorium on executions presented by the European Union at the 54th UN General Assembly (A/C.3/54/L.8/Rev.1).
