PM APPEALS FOR SAUDI MAN'S STAY OF EXECUTION

the New Zealand Prime Minister, Helen Clark, made an urgent appeal to a Saudi Arabian government official to stop Hadi 'Ali Suliaman being executed. Suliaman, whose brother lives in New Zealand, was expected to be executed in Saudi Arabia the following evening. Amnesty International says he was convicted for helping a man escape from prison. The man's brother, Meshal 'Ali Suliaman, called on the New Zealand Government to take action to prevent the execution. A spokesperson for Miss Clark says she made a personal appeal for Hadi 'Ali Suliaman because of his brother living in New Zealand and the Government's stance against the death penalty.
