Police Commander in Khorasan Province Brig-Gen Eskandar Mo'meni said that the police have seized five tons of narcotics in the first quarter of the Iranian year which started 21 March. He told IRNA that over 2,000 smugglers, and 6,100 addicts and dealers were also rounded up in the same period. He said the police, in two armed clashes with traffickers in Sabzevar and Nahabandan seized over 1.5 tons of drugs including 500 kg of morphine. Over 12 smugglers were killed or executed after going through judicial proceedings, he added.
