Preparations are being made for execution by lethal injection, which will be used at three prisons starting in 2003, replacing the current method of shooting, Corrections Department director general Siwa Sangmanee said.The three prisons - Bangkok's Bang Kwang, Nakhon Si Thammarat Prison, and Klong Phai in Nakhon Ratchasima - had been selected because of their high security, he said.
In addition to the execution chamber, where condemned prisoners would be injected with lethal drugs, rooms to accommodate witnesses, the media, relatives of the prisoners, and the victims' families will be built at each prison, Siwa said.
