in Qatar, a Doha court of appeal commuted the death penalty of a Philippine expatriate convicted of murder to 10 years in jail. Rolando Stanislaus Bildamin, 37, was sentenced to death for killing his girlfriend Roselyn Valencia Fernandez, 34. Legal sources said the sentence was reduced as it believed the crime, which occured on August 4, 2004, was a “beating that led to the death” and not a “premeditated murder.” According to the medical report, Fernandez died from multiple knife injuries to her right arm, chest and abdomen. A diplomatic source told the Gulf Times that a settlement between the two families had been reached.
