a Qatari judge sentenced a Filipino worker to death for the 2004 knife slaying of a compatriot in Doha.
Rolando Villamin, 35, of Ilocos Sur province, was meted out the death penalty by the Upper Criminal Court of Qatar for the death of 34-year-old Rosalyn Fernandez, Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs Esteban Conejos Jr. said.
Fernandez, of Pampanga province, was found dead in her room in Doha on August 4, 2004, Conejos said, citing a report by Philippine Ambassador to Doha Isaias Begonia.
The Philippines would provide legal assistance to Villamin and exhaust all available means to spare him from the death penalty, said Conejos.
