Residents of the Indian village of Noorani Basti held a demonstration demanding the death sentence for the killers of Ishrat, a married girl who was burnt by her in-laws and died in civil hospital ten days later, on August 9. The demonstration was led by Asghar Khan, the father of deceased girl and her brothers Arshad, Shahzad and Javed. More than 50 people, all relatives of deceased girl and residents of Noorani Basti took part in demonstration. They demanded arrest of all the people involved, saying that only Ishrat's husband Arif and her father-in-law Baboo had been arrested, while her mother-in-law and sister-in-law were still free though also accused of her murder.
