The Hands Off Cain 2013 Report, published by Reality Book, account of the most important facts relating to the practice of the death penalty in 2012 and the first six months of 2013.
China, Iran and Iraq were found to be in 2012 the first three “Executioner countries” of the world, even if Iran is the absolute record holder of capital punishment by population. However, the data confirm an irreversible trend towards abolition of the death penalty in the world and also show a drop in executions than in previous years, mainly due to a sharp decrease in China.
The event will also set out the objectives of the campaign of Hands Off Cain following the adoption in December 2012 of the new resolution on the universal moratorium on executions by the General Assembly of the UN.
The Hands Off Cain 2013 Report is dedicated this year to Martin O'Malley, Governor of Maryland, who on May 2 has abolished capital punishment, making it the sixth U.S. state in six years to repeal it. For this to Governor O'Malley will also be awarded the “Abolitionist of the Year 2013”.
