RUSSIA. DEPUTY SEEKS LAW ON RUSSIA'S REJECTION OF DEATH PENALTY

State Duma legislative committee chief Pavel Krasheninnikov called on the lower chamber of the Russian Parliament to adopt a bill that would confirm the abolition of the death penalty in Russia.
"I hope that the current Duma will finally pass appropriate legislative amendments that would effectively abolish the death penalty," Krasheninnikov said.
A variety of death penalty moratoriums are active in Russia today, the deputy said. "The first moratorium was imposed by a resolution of the president of the Russian Federation to ban the execution of the death penalty. The second one was imposed by the Constitutional Court to prohibit death penalty verdicts until all constituents of the Russian Federation can organize jury trials," he said.
