South Sudan President Salva Kiir decided to pardon death sentenced South African William Endley, SAnews reported on 1 November 2018.
Endley, a former South African National Defence Force (SANDF) colonel, was in February sentenced to death for espionage and conspiring to overthrow the government.
Endley was arrested in 2016.
Kiir announced Endley’s release during the National Peace Celebration in the capital city of Juba on 31 October 2018.
Endley will be released on 1 November and return to South Africa in due course.
