Samisoni Tikoinasau, the brother of coup leader George Speight, said his brother had been hoodwinked by the military after they promised him and his supporters immunity through the Muanikau Accord which they did not honour.
Speaking after his brother was sentenced to death by hanging [subsequently commuted], Tikoinasau said Speight had done the honourable thing by pleading guilty for his actions in 2000.
He said his brother had told him he would plead guilty for "national reconciliation".
