Saudi Arabia executes gay men

January 2, 2002: three men found guilty of sodomy were beheaded on New Year’s day in Saudi Arabia, that applies strict Islamic law.

three Saudi nationals convicted of homosexuality were beheaded in the south of the country on January 1.Ali Ben Hatan Ben Saad, Mohamed Ben Suleiman Ben Mohamed and Khalil Ben Abdallah were condemned to death for “sodomy, marriage amongst themselves, and incitement to pedophilia.”In 2001 the kingdom of Saud carried out at least 81 executions. Saudi Arabia applies a strict version of Islamic law and anyone guilty of murder, rape, apostasy, armed robbery and drug trafficking, as well as drug addiction, is sentenced to death.
