The Saudi Arabia government has given three extra months to four Indonesian workers facing death penalty for committing murders in that country to seek forgiveness from families of the murdered victims, a statement issued by the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry said.
Forgiveness from the victims' families -- called ishlah -- was the only way to free them from their death penalty, the statement said.
The decision to provide more time for the Indonesians was conveyed by Saudi Arabian embassy to Indonesia on May 3, Xinhua news agency reported.
It came before a meeting between Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Marty Natalegawa and his Saudi Arabian counterpart Prince Saud Al-Faisal scheduled to be held in Riyadh on May 8.
The statement said it was a "positive response" from Saudi's King Abdullah to the Indonesian president's request and the decision was made based on good relations between the two countries.
