seven men were sentenced to death for the murder of 13 police officers who were killed in 2005 during a refugee camp uprising. According to reports, the men would have been tortured to make them ‘confess.’ The death sentences were pronounced after the families of the victims refused to accept diya (blood money). On May 18, 2005, some men broke in to the Saoba Aradi camp, 30 km south of Kartoum, after authorities attempted to displace the inhabitants of the camp by force. The seven convicts are: Paul John Kaw, Fathi Adam Mohammed Ahmad Dahab, Idris Adam Alyas, Nasr al Din Ahmad Ali, Sulayman Juma Timbal, Badawi Hasan Ibrahim and Abd al Rahim Ali.
