Shanmuga Sundaram Raghupathi, a member of Sri Lanka's separatist Tamil Tiger rebels who was charged with attacking a navy base at Karainagar in the northern Karaitivu island, was sentenced to death by the Colombo High Court, Sri Lanka, The Island newspaper said. The accused was been charged with attacking the navy base with other rebels between August 1990 and May 1991. Colombo High Court Judge Sarath Ambepitiya ruled that it had been proved that the accused had engaged in the attack which resulted in the deaths of several navy personnel.
