SIX YEMENIS CONDEMNED TO DEATH FOR OFFICIAL'S MURDER

six Yemenis were sentenced to death for the assassination of a local official and his bodyguard in an ambush in north Yemen during last year's presidential election, a judicial source said. They were part of a group of 32 charged with the murder of Ahmed Ali Tahiri, an official from northern Yemen, and bodyguard Mohammed Hussein Tahiri on September 20, 2006, the source added. Three others were handed 10-year sentences with seven receiving three-year terms at the trial in Sanaa. The remaining 16 were convicted of involvement but released on time already spent in custody.
