SOMALIA: FORMER ARMY SOLDIER SENTENCED TO DEATH IN SOMALILAND

a former army soldier was sentenced to death for the wanton killing of a civilian in Hargeisa, capital of Somaliland, said the Somaliland Armed forces court martial in a statement signed by its Judge Advocate Colonel Mohamed Hasan Farah.
Serviceman Da’ar Ali Ibrahim was convicted of killing a civilian in the streets of Hargeisa on 18 May 2014.
According to the court’s judgment, 25-year-old Abdirizaq Mahmud Ahmed lost his life as a result of a premeditated brutal act by ex-serviceman Da’ar Ali Ibrahim.
All criminal acts by members of the three branches of the Somaliland armed forces (Army, Police and Prisons Service) are prosecuted at the Court Martial at their respective bases anywhere in the country.
